1940s Tom Collins

2 oz gin
juice of 1/2 lemon
1 tsp powdered sugar
carbonated water

Squeeze the juice of 1/2 lemon over a teaspoonful of powdered sugar in a 12 ounce glass. Add gin and several ice cubes. Fill glass with carbonated water and stir well. Drop in a cherry and slice of lemon, cut half a slice of orange over the brim of the glass and serve with straws
