Small-Batch Bourbon

Small-batch Bourbon is a corn-based Whiskey made from either sweet or sour mash and aged in charred oak barrels. The term "small-batch" refers to bourbon blended from selected barrels.

Where it's made: Small-batch Bourbon can legally be made in the United States. Most of it comes from from Kentucky, the state in which it was originally produced.

What does it do? Small-batch Bourbon's distinctive taste is generally milder than straight bourbon. Expect the flavor of caramel, cloves and honey. Small-batch bourbons are considered a foundation ingredient of a cocktail, and can easily overwhelm the other components if not properly prepared.

How to mix it? Small-batch Bourbon is most often enjoyed either straight or on the rocks. In a cocktail, it is normally blended with spring water, mint or citrus fruit.

Where to buy it? Widely available in the United States and internationally. Look for the "small-batch" designation. Prices range from $8 to upward of $100 a bottle.
